There are alot of folks here who are fed up. I attended a Democratic Party meeting this Saturday and I don't see anyone giving up. We have alot of Democrats in Texas and they are frantically registering new voters.(In fact my county Collin county is 50/50 Dems vs Repukes)

The main problem is countering the Republican noise machine. Clear channel literally owns every single major radio station and most minor ones. Belo corporation owns another chunk of the media. Its a very hostile environment for anyone who is overtly against George "aWol" Bush. The propaganda is relentless, this is Bush country, the Republicans own Texas etc....

Still I think there will be a surprise or two in store for the Repukes. I will be working as a election clerk using my bilingual skills. We have already seen a number of "dirty tricks" for our registration drives. I had my Kerry sign stolen less than a day after putting it out. I responded with two new signs. My point is there is alot of passion out here.

would Texas, I would consider it a moral victory if Kerry got more than Gore and Bush got less this year than in 2000.

Keep up the good work!  I'll pray for a miracle.

  •  It would be nice if Kerry got this into the debate (none / 0)

on Thursday, saying something along the lines of 'Bush's hometown doesn't even support him for President'.

Leaving aside the fact that it matches my own feelings, that's a superbly written piece.  It's a devastating indictment of the Bush administration.  And given how sensitive publications such as this have to be to local sentiments, it wouldn't surprise me if there's a good deal of anti-Bush feeling among the locals.  He's still a fairly recent arrival (showed up in 1998, IIRC), maybe they're as sick of him as that Alabama landlord whose apartment Bush trashed back in the early '70s.
