The 21st century will slowly evolve into new leadership the global community accepts. The social upheaval of the roaring sixties from Paris Sorbonne and Left Bank to Amsterdam's Liberal movement or US anti-Vietnam War protests and Ginsberg Papers, the common denominator was youth searching for personal freedom and loosening ties from authorities, local government, parents and teachers.
The epitaph of the movement has led to contrary forces presently dictating power in US corporatism and authocratic form of government. The failures seen by corporations as Enron, Arthur Anderson, SEC and Wall Street stocks downturn has initiated a soul searching for leadership in corporation, new regulation and principles of self governance.
On a national level, the large investments of military power as star wars, new development of efficient and small nuclear bombs is IMO a blindness to the [r]evolution in the present day world.
Now it will become interesting beyond line -
China - 1.3bn inhabitants per today - and India are upcoming economic powers that will put its mark on the world by 2055. The Russian government is reaching out to the EU, NATO and cooperating on
oil resources and marketing with both Japan and China. The European Union is already a global economic player to be reckoned with.
The self-appointed and proclaimed leader of the world, George W. Bush and the US has suffered two grotesque failures this week on the Asian Tsumani Disaster.
The core group of nations, Mr Bush's initiative on December 29 which at first included only the US, India, Japan and Australia to channel aid to victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami, will be dissolved today after only eight days. The United Nations takes control of the international relief effort, delegates to a donors summit said yesterday. "It has served its purpose" was comment of master in deceit Colin Powell at Asian Relieve Conference in Jakarta today.
Secondly, the initiative to donate $15m as emergency relief and side-stepping the UN as being irrelevent has made this point clear in front of 5,500,000,000 persons watching the tragedy in Asia. Other nations, even tiny nations like Norway, show how 'stingy' Bush&Co and illiterate US foreign policy and relations has become. The USS Abraham Lincoln and the miltary are the only persons saving face for the hype[r] power the US and its government has become.
The European Commission [EC] today increased its donation to 473m [$643m] and a combined total for all EU member nations of 1.5bn [$2.0bn]. For emergency relief 100m will be donated to the Red Cross and UN partners. The vast amount will be spend on rebuilding the Asian infrastructure and economy. The EU investment bank will equal the IMF to offer a loan of 1bn and will propose debt reduction to the poorest nations.
The outpour of compassion has only been surpassed by the extent of the disaster in Asia and the suffering by its victims.
The disaster IMO will effectuate a break with historical tradition, the world does not want to be ruled by a bully of military might, but eagerly awaits to meet the challenges of the new century by partnerships. Hopefully breaking with tradition to invest a great amount of money in military assets and adept to economic investments in civilian projects and even the environment.
It is for Democrats to stay with its principles and turn away from the obnoxious Republican concepts of bashing at world institutions and begin looking for new partnerships to lead in the tradition of the American Way.
