The Backdrop:
WASHINGTON -- Moisture-laden storms from the north, west and south are likely to converge on much of America over the next several days in what could be a once-in-a-generation onslaught, meteorologists forecast yesterday.
[...]
"You're talking a two- or three-times-a-century type of thing," said prediction-center senior meteorologist James Wagner, who has been forecasting storms since 1965. "It's a pattern that has a little bit of everything."
The exact time and place of the predicted 1-2-3 punch changes slightly with every new forecast. But the National Weather Service, in its weekly "hazards assessment," alerted meteorologists and disaster specialists yesterday that flooding and frigid weather could start as early as Friday and stretch into early next week, if not longer.
"It's a situation that looks pretty potent," said Ed O'Lenic, the Climate Prediction Center's operations chief. "A large part of North America looks like it's going to be affected."
This will be the backdrop for the real shitstorm forecasted for our nation's capitol.
The shitstorms of hubris and illegitimacy are converging to form the perfect political storm for the Bush administration.
Hubris
The torture memos are catching up with Bush and appointing Gonzalez has made this world news. And they aren't backing down:
I am deeply committed to the rule of law.
[...]
The Department of Justice's top priority is to prevent terror attacks against our nation.
The rule of law is no longer the top priority for the Bush adminstration as they seek to force their political agenda. They only care about winning. But, they aren't winners...
Illegitimacy
Senator Barbara Boxer is going to stand up for voters by contesting an election that was too illegitimate to produce a valid winner. Just like the election in Ukraine and the upcoming election in Iraq, our Presidential election wasn't valid. It can't be trusted.
While Bush showed his hubris in claiming a mandate his drop in the polls shows his hegemony with the American people. Bush is not a legitimate winner. He wasn't in 2000 and he isn't now.
The third storm
We have the responsibility to provide the third blow in this 1-2-3 punch. We have the tools to amplify message and ensure that this is the first week of Bush as a lame-duck politician. The blogosphere begged Boxer to stand up for the integrity of our votes. Now it is our turn.
