Dear Kossacks
I just wanted to bring a new documentary in progress to the attention of Kossacks, and perhaps a small way that we can increase public awareness of the human cost of the war in Iraq. There's a new film called The Ground Truth (http://www.thegroundtruth.org/soldiers.html), directed and produced by Patricia Foulkrod. Currently, it exists as a thirty minute documentary, but she is trying to complete a feature length version in time for release by the second anniversary of the Iraq invasion this March. Here's the trailer (from optruth.org):

However, the film needs money and support, and not just from Kossacks, but from our communities.
I am in process of arranging a showing at a local church hall. If possible, we'll pass the hat, sell copies of the short version, and I'll send all proceeds on to www.thegroundtruth.org to help with the financing of the movie. The film seems to be endorsed by optruth.org and they have a link to her trailer on their website (they've raised $20,000 so far, about a fifth of what they need). I've gotten permission for a public showing from Ms. Foulkrod, and she says she may be able to put me in touch with a speaker for the showing. The short version of the film is a powerful, eye opening film, a raise to people's consciousness even in a red state. If there aren't any churches who might be sympathetic enough to rent you their hall for a nominal fee (or even free), you might see if you local libraries have space available. While I think blogging and the DLC election is important, I also think it is very important that we support the alternative media in our own backyards, and try to expose people to the tragedy of this war (and other things). Not all will listen, but some will, and even one will make a difference.
