Well.. I guess James Dobson isnt satisfied with the fact he helped frighten voters into re-electing Bush: now he is trying to do the same thing wuth the Canadian electorate by urging them to fight gay uniona up here:
"It is clear here in the United States that the American people do not want same-sex marriage," said James Dobson, chairman of the Colorado-based Focus on the Family. He was speaking in a pre-recorded program with leaders of the group's Canadian wing.
"I would hope that Canadians who also do not want same-sex marriage would be encouraged by what has happened down here."
Yea.. in those 7 provinces that already allow SS unions.. its literaly rent the fabric of society (/sarcasm)
Some other good stuff:
He also took a jab at Prime Minister Paul Martin for not allowing Liberal cabinet ministers to vote with their conscience when the proposed marriage law is introduced later this year.
"Your prime minister, Paul Martin, has recently done things to subvert the will of the people," Dobson said.
I guess Dobson doesnt know anything about Parliamentary government and the concept behind Cabinet solidarity on bills. Dobson also forgot to mention that for the rest of the Liberal MPs it IS a free vote.
Oh... and of course this :
Dobson concluded the broadcast by calling on Canadians to pray on the issue and to donate money. (..to the Canadian branch of Focus on The Family).
And what do the SS supporters say about this?:
Alex Munter of Canadians for Equal Marriage said Dobson is trying to impose his country's values on the Canadian political system. Munter said conservative American groups are worried about the long-term effect of a Canadian same-sex marriage law on the United States.
"It is very important for Canadians to know that there is a tremendous influence by American organizations and by American far-right groups who are trying to affect the outcome of what should be a Canadian decision," Munter said from Ottawa.
"Those who support discrimination in the United States know that when Canada respects equality, when Canada upholds the Charter of Rights, it undermines their arguments."
