I caught the
@Stake email today and was pleased to read this li'l bit from Future Speaker of the House Pelosi's comments regarding Black History Month:
(quote under the fold)
On our side of the aisle, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi made some more suitable remarks:
"This year's theme for Black History Month is the 100th Anniversary of the Niagara Movement. In 1905, a group of 29 courageous African American leaders and thinkers - led by sociologist and scholar W.E.B. Du Bois - met to develop a plan for aggressive action and demanded: suffrage, equal economic and educational opportunities, an end to segregation and full civil rights. The meeting, held in secret near Niagara Falls, was a call to let loose a 'mighty current' of protest against the injustices facing the African American community...
"House Democrats are committed to fighting for civil, social, and economic justice. To that end, we have put forward our New Partnership for America's Future, which reaffirms our dedication to six core American values: national security, prosperity, opportunity, fairness, community, and accountability.
"As we celebrate Black History Month, let us do so in the spirit of the Niagara Movement and recommit ourselves to standing for a proactive uncompromising agenda that achieves equality and opportunity for all Americans to reach their God-given potential."
(emphasis added)
Now, sure, it has words like "values" and "God-given" which the right will say are simply placeholders that Pelosi is attempting to use more frequently to counteract last November's exit poll results...
But the entire middle paragraph was practically written by Lakoff.
Now, we just need every Dem in the spotlight -- House, Senate, governors ... heck, even mayors -- talking like this.
Folks, we need to keep hammering home our progressive values. Whether they are actually progressives who don't get it or conservative trolls, there are still way too many Zells and Joementums out there among us claiming to be progressives but acting and talking in the opposite direction. If we continue to speak from our soul we can highlight why these people truly are DINOs, and should go the way of the dinos.
