Josh Marshall ( http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com ) has been a leading voice regarding the Bush Administration's efforts to phase-out Social Security and replace it with the risk (and debt) of private accounts .
Sen. Joe Lieberman is the weak point in the defense of social security. The key phrase for me is "on the table" (check out the post on Lieberman's site http://lieberman.senate.gov/issues/health.html#socialsecurity). The phrase "on the table" has been coming up a lot in republicans circles and talking points. To me it is more of chopping block than a "table". As Josh has pointed out, this debate has never been about "saving" social security, but creating a very slippery slope to phasing out social security.
Where are the Connecticut progressives and democrats pressure to get Lieberman aligned? Time to it turn up the heat!
Democrats are poised to win the social security debate if we are united. But more important than winning the debate, democrats are close to successfully defending the most successful social welfare program. Lieberman must be stopped b/c he is on the wrong side of the issue.
Here are all of Lieberman's contact details. I am placing my calls today.
