I have been stewing this around, and I want to bring it up for some discussion.
The Republicans are doing a fabulous job framing the arguments; they are picking the “buzz words” and the main stream media (MSM) is buying into it.
I will give you an example, in the social security debate, we often hear “Privatized accounts”, while the Republicans have campaigned to reframed it as “Personal savings accounts” and the MSM has started using this. “Personal savings accounts” is a much more palatable, and misleading statement than “Privatized accounts”.
War on Terror, has become the War on Tierney, and people have bought it, and so on. So I say we come up with, use and stick to at all cost our own “framing”
I call the republican agenda as whole “The War on Americans” Not America, but Americans…
- The bankruptcy reform bill
- Social Security Plans
- The budget cuts to the poor programs
- Tax cuts for the rich
- Staggering deficit
- Corporate Welfare
- Environmental irresponsibility
- And on and on
All of these things are being done on the backs of hard working Americans.
The far right’s “go to” phrase, is “Why do you hate America?” We have all heard it. When painted into the corner, over the war, “Why do you hate America?”. When you try to give them facts about Social Security, The Patriot Act, Anything, “Why do you hate America?” They know this is a show stopper more often than not, because no one wants to be framed as hating America.
We have a comeback and we should use it,
“Why do you hate Americans?”
How can you support a war, but the actions of the administration clearly do not support the troops (Cuts to VA, Cuts to veteran retraining, and so on). “Why do you hate Americans?”. How can you support Bush when he has put this great nation so far into debt that other nations are dumping our currency, “Why do you hate Americans?”, Cuts in Social Security “Why do you hate Americans?”, Medicare Cuts, “Why do you hate Americans?”, Environmental cuts, “Why do you hate Americans?”
It is not the “War on Tierney” it is the “War on Terror, in Afghanistan” and a “Holy War” everywhere else.
The Republican Agenda, when broken down, is very unpalatable by a large majority of Americans, but they have mastered the art of framing the argument.
Many of us here seek justice and truth, but that does not always win the war. We need to start reframing the argument. We need to be the masters of the “Sound Bite”
Sorry if this is not as clear as I want it to be, I am writing for passion. I love this nation, but hate what it is becoming.
Bush, why do you hate Americans?
