It's a disturbing old world out here. Things didn't go as we liked in November, and it's been downhill ever since. The death and debacle in Iraq continues, the administration makes snarling noises toward Iran and Syria while North Korea goes "over here guys, hey, over here"(and is largely ignored), our esteem in the world (as "americans") continues to plummet, global warming heats up, corporate raiders prepare for the wholesale rape and plunder of green spaces, the economy continues an inexorable slide, Social Security prepares for dismantling, and prostitutes run rampant in the White House press corps.

So, what are YOU doing?
I'd like to know what people are doing individually to make a difference. Are you driving a greener car or driving less? Writing letters to the editor? Canvassing neighborhoods with petitions? Talking to elected officials? Donating to causes? Investigating corruption? Or are you just getting mad as hell and not taking it any more?
This is not meant to be accusatory; it's a sincere inquiry. This is a community. Personally, I love looking into the heart of the community and seeing what people feel, love, and do to support what they believe.
I'm talking to people one on one. I'm dispensing information, as in a previous diary I wrote about the perils of living in an echo chamber, not everyone is privy to the information we get as Kossacks. I talk to people every day, and if there's something brewing that I can inform them about, I do so. I spread links, information, articles, and general knowledge one person at a time. Part of this is because, doggonnit, I'm busy. Part of it is because I'm lazy. And part of it is because I enjoy talking to people.
It's not much, but I have never lost my belief in true grass-roots action, in one-on-one interaction for the good of the whole. As 2006 gets closer, I'll be working to get a good Democrat nominated and elected in the Senate to represent Pennsylvania, but for now, I'm sticking close to home and talking a lot.
So, what are YOU doing to make a difference?
