I read Kos' article entitled
"Wedging big Business" where he quoted a nonsensical article by
Kevin Drum about Social Security and Medical Insurance. In the article, Drum wants to save American companies the cost of the health insurance they pay for their employees. Kos pointed out that we could save General Motors 7 billion dollars by taking away from them the cost of the medical insurance they pay for their employees and that that would add another $7 billion to GM's bottom line. GM would love that!! Of course, they would but unfortunately, the way Drum wants to pay for this is to:
1. Stop corporate loopholes. I have been hearing the loophole argument since I spoke my first words in 1950. It's ridiculous.
and
2. By changing the Social Security from 7.65% for both the employer and the employee to 3% each.
All I can tell you all is that everyone needs to do a little homework to understand our government's fiscal policy. The article was complete nonsense and the ideas show absolutely no understanding of reality.
How could we take over the payment of medical insurance for 130 million working Americans without money? Not only that, it was said that the government could do a better job than GM in providing medical coverage. Well, GM's employees probably have a great policy with medical, drugs, dental, abortion, psychological services, low co-pays...etc. They fought for those perqs and took them in lieu of more salary. I'm sure GM employees would love to give that up.
What makes anyone think that our congress could provide better coverage and keep their damn hypocritical politics out of every benefit. It would cost $780 billion dollars to cover 130 million employees at $6,000 a piece. Where is that money coming from? It's $1.5 trillion each year to cover every American.
Then, Drum wants to cut the SS/Medicare withholding/employer expense percentage on all wages under $90,000 by 9.3% (7.65% x 2=15.3% - 6% = 9.3%). If the average salary is $32,000, that is a cut of $2,976 per person and times 130 million people, that is $387 billion dollars less coming in. We need more, not less.
My articles on Social Security never make the front page and never even get recommended but this misinformation is right up front and everyone loves it. Of course, they love it because it's a complete fantasy.
I have been called everything under the sun by these brilliant Dkos members because I am trying to make you all realize how the middle class is getting screwed in the SS/Medicare system but that seems to be too much for all of you to handle.
Well, my friends, wake up, you are being used by the Republicans every single day and you have no idea how or why. Everyone should be furious that tax rates have gone from 91% for the wealthy to 35% and 15% for dividends and capital gains. The Republicans want more and the very stupid Democrats will eventually not make a peep just like they did when the assault weapons ban was sunset. The Republicans want no estate tax and where is the outrage over that.
Everyone has to start to understand that a country this size needs lots of money by and making gifts to wealthy people all the time, makes the Democrats look like jerks because they never try to stop anything and they are not visibly outraged and passionately fighting this. Wake up and learn. Don't be like John Kerry, fight and don't be afraid to call Republicans the selfish pigs that they are!
Maybe everyone should stop the name calling, the troll rating and the recipe posting when they are unable to understand the truth. Just because you don't understand something, it doesn't make the poster a Republican.
