I had an interesting conversation tonight with a coworker. I had not spoken to him much before tonight.
He was a military child. Raised a Republican by Republicans, and joined the USMC in the spring of 2001.
He just got out of the Marine Corps after serving 2 tours in Iraq.
Annother coworker asked him if it was really "as bad as the media" made it out to be. His answer: sorta.
His first tour was part of the initial invasion (he was in Bagdahd the day the statue fell). He came home knowing we had done good, hoping for success for the citizens there. He came hope "Proud to be an American, prouder to be a Republican."
Between his first and second tours, he saw much negative from the "librul" media, FOXNews said things were inproving every day in Iraq, so it must be the case.
His second tour found him in Fallujah. He saw the bad. He saw some good. But he says things are NOT getting better. He says that the election was a good start, but not going to fix the problems. The only way to get a steady government in Iraq is to either split the country into several counties, giving each group their own piece of the pie, or letting a civil war happen.
He said he came home the second time "Proud to be an American, prouder to be a Democrat." The other coworker had a fit about WMD & Osama. The Marine said "Iraq ain't got WMD, no bin Laden, not even Osama's dialasis machine."
I'm thinking I need that on a bumpuer sticker.
