Following up on my earlier diary today, the Senate votes today to restore money to Medicaid that the Bush administration wants to cut. Governors have been incensed about this assault on Medicaid since it foists the problem onto the states, which have already been cutting many benefits to the poor, elderly, and to children's health programs.
Republican Sen. Gordon Smith's amendment will likely be voted on today.
It is supported by the AARP, and the American Academy of Family Physicians, among others.

It is going to be yet another very close vote.
The amendment, which proposes a year long study of Medicaid prior to making any cuts, has bipartisan sponsorship.
As I noted earlier, Susan Collins is undecided as is possibly Arlen Spector.
Call your Senator and let them know you want to preserve these funds for Medicaid.
Let us know where your Senator stands so we can focus our calling efforts today.
