Why do you hate America?
It recently dawned on me that I have heard this and seen this before.
No, not the 1960s hardhats with their lunch box stickers - - America: Love it or Leave it.
Within my own family.
I do love America and I can say it proudly, but with pain. For I love America in much the same way I would love a child who has taken up with an abusive partner.
My sister's ex-husband is a master of the Newt Gringrich tactic of loudly accusing your opponent of that which you intend to do yourself. What was the Bush slogan versus Gore? Al Gore "will do and say anything to be President" - - remember that?
Pot, meet kettle. But it worked. Twice.
Anyway, before my brother-in-law became my ex brother-in-law he would routinely berate my mother saying she must really hate her own daughter since how could a mother who loved her daughter criticize her husband? If you really loved your daughter you would support her decisions.
Of course he also consistently told my sister "Your mother really hates you and is jealous that you found a man as good as me" much the same way Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh tell rural Red-Staters that liberals hate America.
The answer is simple:
I love America, loud and proud. I am merely angry and sad that he/she took up relations with a scumbag loser.
