This morning I met with elected officials concerned about the media, how it fails to get their issues out, distorts the news, demonizes them, or simply fails to get the story at all. All of these people are solid progressives. NONE of them know how to use blogs for their news, let alone maximize the internet to get their message out. They asked me to meet with them to help them get around the rightwing mainstream media in our region. I have agreed to help, following up on the workshop I did recently, diaried here:

Now, I am asking for your help, and hope you will help me in your comments.
I will be meeting with these people regularly over the next few weeks to get them comfortable using blogs as a source of their news. I would like people here to respond, in comments, to a series of questions I am posting, so that my assistance to these people will be the best that it can be. Note: I am not a computer person, but an academic and an activist. I will ask them to hire computer people when it is a technical question.
1. What do you consider to be the best on-line blogs for hte following:
national news
international news
political commentary
NY state news
- What is the best way to structure your time on-line with blogs if you have a limited amount of time to follow the news and want to stay up to date? What do you do?
- Can you give us your little testimonial about how using blogs as a primary source of news has made you MORE rather than LESS informed?
- What is the best way for a politician to use a blog if they want to get their message out:
have their own blog
post on existing blogs
etc.
I would appreciate any on-line links you can give me to this wheel.
My apologies for posting this as a diary. I have used the open threads recently, and have gotten no response. I will be doing my bloging workshop again with a group of activists around the state (I am a good speaker and a good teacher, which is why they have me doing it), but I need to make it much more solid, so I am appealing to you all for help.
