Democrats Test Debt Xenophobia as Campaign Issue?!
That's the title to MSNBC's article about Democratic concerns over our ballooning Federal Debt. (Unless my eyes were playing tricks on me, I believe they had originally simply titled it "Democrats Test Xenophobia as Campaign Issue" but someone with more computer savvy will have to confirm that for me. Regardless, the current title is just as disturbing.
As if you needed any more evidence that the media has been hijacked by multi-national corporations acting in self-interest to the detriment of this country, this to me shows just how biased they have become.
The use of such a biased headline undercuts something which should be a real concern to patriotic Americans. If this is an "ownership society", who owns our country? Shouldn't we all be concerned about the debt holdings of Communist China which seems to be leading to the appeasement of its authoritarian regime, including a growing unwillingness of our government to protect Taiwan?
Furthermore, the jist of the article is obvious. "There go those Democrats again, responding to polling." As if Democrats aren't capable of seeing what has become clear to many in this country--our enormous national debt is as much of a threat to our security as al Qaeda and more of a threat in reality to our sovreignty than the neo-cons allege the UN to be in their fantasy world.
The Fourth Estate is dead, and its cancer is spreading to the three branches of government. The signs of the cancer spreading to the judiciary were obvious in the posturing last week over the Terri Schiavo case. The media has presented the situation in such a way that you would think the vast majority of people think Ms. Schiavo should continue to suffer. But the polls show a different tale. Then again, there I go looking at polls, silly me. I should know that the only polls that are important are the one's that MSNBC, Faux and CNN tell me are important--like the "Battleground States poll in this article showing Bush's support over 50%. Nevermind last week's approval rating poll that showed him hovering near 40%.
The tight relationship between the multinational conglomerates who control the media and their parents and subsidiaries feeding at the Congressional pork trough is a danger to this country. The FCC has changed from an organization concerned with such conflicts and aggregations of power to one concerned about Janet Jackson's nipple--a paper tiger existing only to feed red-meat to the Republican base.
But there is hope. The tactics of the corporate media to discredit the blogosphere bely their fear that citizen-based media will knock them from their tower. So the recent threats from the FEC should be no surprise either.
No responsible citizen should rely on the corporate media without questioning their motives and thinking critically, which is exactly the purpose blogs serve. Fuck MSNBC, Fuck CNN, Fuck Fox!
