Minnesota State Senator Michelle Bachmann (R-Stillwater), that's who.  She's a crackpot all right.  She's Minnesota's number one foe of all things gay or hinting of gayness.  She's pushing to amend our state constitution to forbid same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships.  She'd probably also love to include banning athletes' popping each other on the butt, if she could.  She's running for Congress (MN-06), and clearly thinks she can ride this big fat gay issue all the way to D.C.

Anyway, recently OutFront Minnesota organized several thousand citizens to rally against the amendment, and an intrepid local snapped a few photos of her hiding in the bushes at the capitol, spying on the rally.

The [Minneapolis] Star Tribune reports that Bachmann claims

...she wasn't hiding. Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Sven Lindquist, who accompanied her on a 15-minute scouting mission around the gay-rights rally, said she was simply sitting on a curb.

"I had high heels on and I just couldn't stand anymore," Bachmann said. "I was not in the bushes."

Yeah, right.  "Scouting mission."  Uh-huh.  Take another look at those photos.

We report; you decide.  Is that someone with her back to the camera, sitting on the curb?  Or are those her knees casting a shadow there? She's sitting on the near curb of the street, not the far curb.  Which means she'd be facing away from the Capitol where the photographer is positioned.  But wait:  you can see her knees as she's facing the camera.  You can't sit on the curb that way.  And, what about the kerning?!

Hey, do you need a vaguely homoerotic moniker (coughHinderocketcough) to make an analysis like this involving closeups (or kerning!)?  If so, just call me John Bigboote ("Big Boo-TAY").

By the way, the anti-gay folks are having their rally on April 20.  I'm sure the fact that this is the same day as the 116th birthday of another notorious homophobe is just a really unfortunate coincidence.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
