This started as a comment, as many diaries do, so I'll start with it:
The Words of Jesus set the standard, but their acts convict them.
George Bush shows by his deeds that he is not a Christian.
Tom DeLay shows by his deeds that he is not a Christian.
Bill Frist shows by his deeds that he is not a Christian.
Real Christians who vote for these people because they think they are Christian or believe that they are supporting Christian morality have been hoodwinked. They are supporting evil men. Fake Christians deserve to be condemned, again and again, for their abuse of a religion and the teachings of Jesus.
Am I being too hard on these people, and how does "judge not, lest ye be judged" apply.
First. I don't care if I am judged. These people have chosen to engage in evil while claiming to be good, while claiming to be Christian. While I no longer accept the idea of the personal, Big Daddy, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, I completely respect anyone who tries to follow the teachings of Jesus. On the other hand, I don't respect anyone who claims to be a Christian just because he wants heaven. That is as greedy as the greed that Jesus condemned again and again.
Am I too hard on these people? You tell me. Do they care what happens to the poor? Do they care what happens to foreigners? Do they show remorse? Do they try to do better? Do they let greed control their decisions? Are they humble? Are they peacemakers?
What, in short, aside from their claim, gives you any reason to think that these men are Christian? If, as the bumper sticker once said, they cannot be convicted of being a Christian based on what they have done, why would you believe their words when their actions belie them.
