Microsoft is going to
cave on gay rights because of a boycott threat by a whack-job Talibaptist America-Hater.
Matthew Yglesias asks an important question:
. . . . . . it hardly strikes me as a credible threat. Are cultural conservatives going to stop using computers? Switch in bulk not only to Macs running Open Office?
Big Media Matt doesn't get the nature of the threat.
As a monopolythe threat of a boycott is silly, but the threat of governmental retribution is real.
Imagine the US trade rep easing off of piracy in China, or the State not rolling over on EU antitrust actions.
What if the Department of Justice reopened the antitrust case, and went after them like they were Democrats.
It would be an easy way to pander to the Christo-Fascists.
The bully-boys of Redmond should not have allowed themselves to be bullied, but I do understand why they have rolled over rolled over like a hooker at Charlie Sheen's house.
