Links provided for a debate plus article regarding the draft. It seems like there is more and more momentum. One suggestion is that no student be allowed to enroll in a college or university unless they have performed either military service or Americorps service. I have mixed emotions about that. My husband, a Vietnam vet, says that the good thing about a draft is that everyone goes in and there is a lot more diversity of thinking. Maybe there wouldn't be as much "lockstep" in thinking. One of the reasons Vietnam was unsuccessful, besides stupidity and futility, was that the enlisted men weren't particularly gung-ho. My husband was a quartermaster officer and neither was he! My son spent two years in Americorps and it was a good experience for him. In addition, he got money at the end that was enough to pay off his college loans. I do know I would not want to sacrifice any child of mine for this stupid war. Any thoughts?
