So somebody (on Santorum's staff, maybe?) leaked the internal
GOoPer poll showing a 37% support for the "nuclear option".
The strange part of the story is here:
Additionally, the survey indicated only about 20 percent of Americans believe the Republican statement that Bush is the first president in history whose court appointees have been subjected to a filibuster, a tactic in which opponents can prevent a vote unless supporters gain 60 votes.
Stop and think: Now why in the world would the Repugs poll the public on knowledge of a blatant falsehood? Why would they pay good money to find out how much the public knows or could be led to believe about an obvious lie?
Hmmm...could it be that, had the 40% of the public believed the stinkin' lie that Bush's nominees were the first to be fillibustered, the Repugs would then plan a communications strategy focusing on perpetuating this misconception?
Kind of like the 9/11-Saddam insinuations all over again.
No one here would be surprised that the Repugs have a deliberate strategy to mislead the American public -- it's one of their central communications strategies -- but it's kind of funny that they've inadvertantly given away their game by revealing internal poll questions which serve no purpose other than to test the gullibility of the public for Repug manipulation.
Too bad they've got a turkey with the Nuclear Option.
