Okay, color me stupid, but this is just bothering the daylights out of me.
Like most everyone else here on DKos, I'm a news junkie. So I make frequent checks of the news headlines each day. One of my primary sources is Yahoo! News since they conglomerate news feeds from all the major services. Within the last 24 hours I've noticed a couple stories that bother me greatly.
:: More after the fold ::
In one story on Harry Reid, the headline referred to Reid's opposition to the GOP power grab as
"bombast." Further, the AP writers have characterized Reid's commentary as
"childish," "playground taunts," and
"name calling." Generally, the AP is painting Reid as an incapable buffoon stumbling his way through the Senate. Assuming for the moment that such characterizations are warranted, where is the similar characterizations of the GOP and their "childish" insistence at getting their way 100% of the time?
The story also declared that Reid's comments regarding the Nukular Option have "struck some of the most sour notes in the standoff." Again, no mention of "Justice Sunday" and comments made by Frist, Santorum, Cornyn, et al. And no mention of the Religious Right whackos, Pat Robertson and James Dobson who have inserted themselves fully into the fillibuster discussion.
In another story, referring to the State Department finally giving the Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) the information they had requested weeks ago, the story characterized the situation as one in which the State Dept. called the shots and put the Dems in their place by narrowing the scope of their requests. Again, assuming that such a characterization is warranted, where is the companion characterization of the State Dept.'s refusal to comply with the SFRC's constitutionally vested authority to conduct the necessary investigations of executive appointees?
Alternatively, looking at Reuters stories, the content appears to paint a much more balanced picture of what's going on. Specifically, Reuters ascknowledges that there is some give and take going on and that neither side has a completely clear record for upstanding behavior.
Which leaves me wondering, does Rupert Murdoch own the AP Wire? Are the folks at the AP on the GOP payroll?
