If you were a Gitmo interrogator, and you ripped pages out of a Koran and flushed them down the toilet in the course of an interrogation, how would you describe the incident in your log to explain the need for a new copy of the Koran or a plumber to unclog the toilet?
Either there is a wave of Muslim fundamentalists showing their contempt for the US by defiling their OWN sacred text, or General Myers has proved Newsweek's story, in this statement on May 12th:
They have looked through the logs, the interrogation logs, and they cannot confirm yet that there were ever the case of the toilet incident, except for one case, a log entry, which they still have to confirm, where a detainee was reported by a guard to be ripping pages out of a Koran and putting in the toilet to stop it up as a protest. But not where the U.S. did it.
What's next? James Dobson performing gay marriages to protest the Massachusetts gay marriage ruling? Give me a freakin break. More below.
Here is Myers confirming the story May 16th:
GEN. MYERS: I think what we make of it is that, despite our review of the situation, we can't find anything to substantiate the allegations that appeared in Newsweek magazine. And we've looked at, I think, something like -- reviewed 25,000 documents, and there's no indication that anything like that happened. other than what I mentioned in the press conference the other day, one last week, where I think more -- now more than one detainee tore pages out of the Koran and put it in the toilet in protest, to stop up the toilet. But we've not found where -- any wrongdoing on the part of U.S. service members.
Given the massive protests around the world from a report of a Koran being desecrated in a prison half way around the world, are we really supposed to believe that someone who has given their life to the misguided cause of militant Islamic fundamentalism, would decide to protest the US government by defiling the Koran this way?
Perhaps they put those dog leashes around their own collars, as another creative protest, too.
