Just when I thought I met the right girl...
Shocked, that was the only word I can come up with...I have dated a woman for 6 months. She is very conservative (from her Dad) but in our discussions, I had shown her the facts and got her to see that the GOP usually just says something and can't back it up...til last night...some how we got on the topic of "the war on terror" and she said that they should always check any arab trying to get on a plane, actually, she uses the word Muslim instead of arab (more offfensive to me). She said we should just deport them all until the war is over...I was literally speechless! I argued the case about liberty, about freedom, about racism and her only reply is "would you trade a little inconvenience to be safe." Wow, it gets even worse...
She then argued that a stereo type applied to all arabs- they all hate americans, even arab americans hate americans (I know I know, crazy logic)... When I said stereotypes are dangerous and cause problems, she disagreed and proceeded to tell me that stereotypes come from somewhere, usually a part of the truth, she talked about "rich jews" claiming they make money and only spend it within the jewish community, making their own pockets bigger" (she is speaking to someone whose jewish mother escaped from a concentration camp in Poland in 1939) and that other stereotypes are the same... I was shocked and saddened - this is a bright young (32) lawyer...she says she is afraid of terrorists attacking somewhere she is at, that liberals have made everything "PC" and that a little questioning never hurt anyone...of course she also believe s we should not provide any services whatsoever for anyone not born in this country, legal or illegal aliens...
The truly scary part is that she does not see anything wrong with these thoughts and could not understand why I was offended.
I like(d) this girl a lot, and am set for a vacation to Mexico with her in June but now, I have a hard time even imagining being in the same room...what should I do?
