Republican Congressman changes war stance
I looked for Kos diaries about Rep. Walter Jones, and found a few condemning some of his loony behaviour. I think you may all be surprised and maybe even heartened to see this:

It was a culinary rebuke that echoed around the world, heightening the sense of tension between Washington and Paris in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. But now the US politician who led the campaign to change the name of french fries to "freedom fries" has turned against the war.
Walter Jones, the Republican congressman for North Carolina who was also the brains behind french toast becoming freedom toast in Capitol Hill restaurants, told a local newspaper the US went to war "with no justification".

Although he voted for the war, he has since become one of its most vociferous opponents on Capitol Hill, where the hallway outside his office is lined with photographs of the "faces of the fallen".

"If we were given misinformation intentionally by people in this administration, to commit the authority to send boys, and in some instances girls, to go into Iraq, that is wrong," he told the newspaper. "Congress must be told the truth."
I don't have a lot to add to the story, just wanted to pass some positive, though belated, info on. Perhaps one of the North Carolinians here could take this and run with it. I'll be happy to delete if that's the case. You can read more at The Guardian
Update [2005-5-25 17:18:47 by Earl]:: Here's a fuller version of the story here in The Dispatch our of NC, with info such as:
Jones has challenged DeLay, as a lonely Republican co-sponsor of a Democratic bill asking the House to undo a rules change. The change was enacted in January to protect DeLay as he faced ethics questions about accepting trips and gifts from lobbyists.
He votes "no" more often than just about anyone, especially on programs he sees as unwarranted increases in federal spending, such as No Child Left Behind and last year's prescription-drug benefit bill.
