David Brooks latest screed ( don't bother clicking, it's stupid ) in the New York Times' Op-Ed page, he laments that Rick Warren has a MegaChurch with 20k sheeple and a book that has sold 25 million copies. He wonders why his faith doesn't produce MegaChurches and why his books don't sell 25 million copies.
I have some answers for him after the jump..
First, why there are no Jewish Megachurches.
Jewish people, especially Orthodox, traditionally can't do any work on the Sabbath. This can be interpreted to include operating machinery like an automobile. Therefore it has become an enviable tradition that synagogs are small and community based and personal and close knit and within walking distance to home.
Brooks doesn't see it that way. He characterizes all Jews as envious and spiteful.
Second, on why his books are flops.
David Brooks' books are flops because he's stupid as evidenced by the fact that he can characterize all Jews as envious and spiteful in a New York Times Op-Ed column and not care. People who buy books are generally smart, literate and intellectually curious. People who buy books hope to either learn something or be entertained. David Brooks is a moron. There is no reason for a potential book buyer to consider one written by this dolt.
I generally skip over David Brooks, he never has anything interesting or insightful to say but I wanted to get the jump on Kos this week because I know how Brooks grates on him.
If you would like to tell David Brooks why his books are flops, you can email him at this email address and let him know.
