By now we've all heard of the meeting between Tony Blair and his cabinet on July 23, 2002, where they discussed the inevitability of war with Iraq and the Bush administrations willingness to do anything to make that war happen.
An interesting side note can be found in the daily AM press briefing the following day. During that July 24th briefing it is revealed that Blair had met with Jeb Bush earlier that morning.
Asked why the Prime Minister had met Jeb Bush, the Governor of Florida, this morning, the PMOS said that the Prime Minister regularly met regional leaders. For example, he had seen Gray Davis, the Governor of California, last year and had met Sigmar Gabriel, the Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, in March this year. The UK and Florida had many trade links, hence our business interest in the State. It was also a popular holiday destination for many Britons.
Now It could have just been a coincidence that Blair chose that day for his meeting with Jeb. It just seems odd that he had last met with a US Governor a year earlier, and obviously it is not a regular occurrence for the Prime Miister to meet with US State Executives. Maybe they just wanted to discuss a time share in Orlando, but somehow I doubt it.
