I've been thinking about what we do when Democrats take control of Washington again. The most important thing is not to kick back and expect the right-wing to be in disarray. Republican think tanks are planning both for what to do if they win, and what to do if they lose. When Nixon was impeached and resigned from office, the moderate Republicans were in disarray, but the far-right continued working as hard as ever.
If Bush is impeached, it will only be a temporary setback for the far-right, they won't stop working for a minute. They won't be caught off guard. They are prepared for victory and for defeat.
I think we need to be similarly prepared so we don't fall into disarray that the right can use. I also think the Bush administration will use the Iraq War as a "poison pill". They will extend this war until until the end of Bush's term in office, especially if it appears that a Democrat will win the 2008 election. Then, they will had over the Iraq mess to the new Democratic president. It's similar to Bush I sending troops to Somalia shortly before leaving office.
