Is it a problem when Dick Durbin goes on the television and cries? Is it a problem when the newspapers and online
sites are packed with stories about him crying?
Yes. It's a huge problem.
Dick Durbin wanted to take a stand. He wanted to say how he really felt. He did. He made a pretty silly statement. It was probably appropo in fact, but it was a very stupid political statement. Just braindead stupid.
It's hard to understand how Democratic leaders are thinking these days. It's very frustrating. Some seem like they're trying to sabotage any strides Democrats like Dean are able to make in the area of "backbone." Biden and numerous other Democrats are guilty as well of course.
But nothing beats the power of a crying Dick Durbin plastered all over the t.v. Any moderate middle American takes one look and says: now that's a Democrat... the kind of person that makes outrageous statements and then cries like a little baby when the adults tell him to apologize.
Dick Durbin and many other Dems may have exactly the right positions on all the right issues. It won't make a lick of difference come 2006/2008 if they aren't adults... if they are afraid to say something and then stand for it.
Dick Durbin has done more damage to the Democratic Party in one pathetic blubbering moment than anything I can recall in a long time. Not because his statements were outrageous, but because he didn't believe enough in his own ideas to stand up for them.
Dick Durbin has just shown himself to be everything that Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, etc. claim that Democrats are.
I simply don't understand people like Durbin who can't put on their freaking suits and do their damn jobs.
If he wants to make an apology, fine. It's a big mistake, but fine. But Dick Durbin has maybe just lost us more than we know and all because he couldn't do what 100 million people in America do everyday: their freaking jobs.
His job was to go on t.v. and not cry like a baby... to not represnt everything the Republicans say we are. It doesn't seem that hard to me. All he had to do was be a man... and what. He cries? Hey, it's great to show your feelings... but come on. This is life and death and if people like Durbin can't do their jobs, if they can't handle the essential moments when they speak directly and personally to every voter in the U.S., then they can't stay in office. These types of Dems are the reason we lose.
Any normal everyday American can go on t.v. and deliver a canned apology speech and not cry for Dick Durbin's freaking paycheck. So why can't he?
You'd almost think some Dems are trying to destroy the Democratic Party.
