Leakers – and their lawyers – would
like to reach for a technicality that feeding reporters nuggets about "Wilson's wife" and her role at the agency does not amount to giving away her identity and name.
It seems that Valerie's maiden name Plame has been grabbed frequently by US reporters (beginning with Novak).
However, that doesn't look to correspond to the name she's used since her marriage to Joe Wilson in 1998.
She has been using the name Valerie E. Wilson – and not just to the neighbors and the preschool.
The NY Times gave this on July 5, and other info (after the flip) seems to corroborate it.
Ms. Wilson, 42, whose husband said she has used her married name both at work and in her personal life since their 1998 marriage, declined to speak for this article.
Furthermore, the real estate and property tax records of the couple's home going back several years
list her name as Wilson, without the maiden name Plame, and as a second, separate name from her husband Joseph Wilson. (I am not inserting here the property address or the link to the tax records.)
Ambassador Wilson's biography listings (1) and (2) mention he is "married to the former Valerie Plame and has two sons and two daughters." [If she kept her name as Plame, the bios wouldn't list her as the "former" V. Plame.]
2lucky alerted us to this :
[From papers relating to] the DC Court of Appeals decision upholding the DC District Court order to Judith Miller and Matthew Cooper to testify:
on August 12 and August 14, grand jury
subpoenas were issued to Judith Miller, seeking documents and testimony related to conversations between her and a specified government official "occurring from on or about July 6, 2003, to on or about July 13, 2003 . . . concerning Valerie Plame Wilson (whether referred to by name or by description as the wife of Ambassador Wilson) or concerning Iraqi efforts to obtain uranium."

[The full legal papers can be seen
here. They refer to Wilson's wife all different ways, as Valerie Wilson Plame, Valerie Plame Wilson, a/k/a Valerie Wilson, a/k/a Valerie Plame.]
When "Wilson's wife" donated to political candidates (she's been a Democrat like her husband), she listed herself as Valerie E. Wilson. Her donation in April 1999 to Gore gives her name "Valerie E. Wilson" and her employer cover Brewster-Jennings (previously reported and published). [ Link ]
Again, in October of last year, she donated under the name Valerie E. Wilson [occupation listed: "N/A/retired"].
I do not see a single donation for the name Plame in the federal database maintained by opensecrets.org since the first year searchable, 1990.
A great read also about Valerie Wilson is "The Spy Next Door" by WaPo's Richard Leiby and Dana Priest, page 1, October 8, 2003.
