As you probably know, the
Wall Street Journal published an editorial today viciously smearing Joe Wilson. This editorial was basically a regurgitation of
Republican lies about Joe Wilson, Republican talking points published yesterday by Ken Mehlman, RNC Chairman.
I already posted this at Little Green Footballs.
My post is comment #295 in the thread. At comment #291, I also posted a recapitulation of Ken Mehlman's lie exposed by Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo. My LGF post is below the fold.
Here are two great lies from the WSJ editorial --
He's the one who told the press the truth that Mr. Wilson had been recommended for the CIA consulting gig by his wife, not by Vice President Dick Cheney as Mr. Wilson was asserting on the airwaves.
LMFAO! The mighty Wall Street Journal, caught red-handed in a lie. Or perhaps they are telling the truth. Does anyone believe that Wilson ever asserted on the airwaves that Dick Cheney recommended Wilson for the CIA consulting gig? I cannot prove a negative here, so it is up to one of you Rove apologists to redeem the honor of the Wall Street Journal.
Media chants aside, there's no evidence that Mr. Rove broke any laws in telling reporters that Ms. Plame may have played a role in her husband's selection for a 2002 mission to investigate reports that Iraq was seeking uranium ore in Niger.
Is that what Rove told Cooper, that Ms. Plame may have played a role in her husband's selection for the 2002 Iraq/Uranium/Niger mission?
I don't think so. What Rove told Cooper was that Plame AUTHORIZED the mission --
NewsMax
Rove informed Cooper that Wilson's trip had not been authorized by "DCIA" - CIA Director George Tenet - or Vice President Dick Cheney. Rather, "it was, KR said, wilson's wife, who apparently works at the agency on wmd [weapons of mass destruction] issues who authorized the trip."
Wow, a twofer. Not only is the WSJ lying about what Rove told Cooper, but Rove lied to Cooper when he said Plame authorized the mission. The frosting on the cake is that the WSJ's mischaracterization of what Rove told Cooper is an obvious attempt to cover up the fact that Rove lied to Cooper.
