Rep. Peter King (R-NY)
statement on Scarborough County last night that Tim Russert and the staff of the New York Times should be shot is seriously consequential, not because it's a typically nutjob sentiment, and not because it's another example of the right-wing marching in lock step with Rove's orders, but because he used the word "shot", as in:
And Joe Wilson has no right to complain. And I think people like Tim Russert and the others, who gave this guy such a free ride and all the media, they're the ones to be shot, not Karl Rove.
Why would we shoot anyone? Because, quite simply, the outing of a CIA agent in war crime is treason, and treason is punishable by death.
Thanks to the right-wing obsession with punishment, we can see what they're really thinking: This crime was so serious that someone SHOULD be executed.
Of course, I don't believe in the death penalty, even for scumbags like Rove. But there is no doubt in my mind that the Plame outing was treason.
