Some anti-war Senior Citizens, who have protested the war for the last THREE YEARS outside a Tucson, AZ recruiting center, have been arrested!
Their Crime? (after the jump)
They tried to ENLIST!
Five of the grannies face trespassing charges after trying to enlist last week.
"
We went in asking to be sent to Iraq so our kids and grandchildren can be sent home, but rather than listening to us, they called the police," said 74-year-old Betty Schroeder. "It was their place to tell us the qualifications, but they wouldn't even speak to us. They should've said, `You're too old."'
Schroeder said her group may approach the Pentagon to see if they could be sent to Iraq.
The Army advised the public to contact their Congressmen if they opposed the war. Good thought, thank you, U.S. ARMY.
In the meantime, the Gang of Five Raging Grannies hopes that charges will be dropped and an apology issued:
"This was not a performance, a joke or civil disobedience," she said. "This was an enlistment attempt."
Let's have Three Cheers for the Raging Grannies of Tucson AZ... and raspberries for Young Republicans willing to send others, including grandma and grandpa, in their place. What kind of chickenhawk Yellow Republicans would do a thing like that?
