July 2nd, 2003 Bush says "bring 'em on" to the mounting insurgence in Iraq
July 6:
a) The New York Times publishes an Op-Ed article by Joseph Wilson titled "What I Didn't Find in Africa", criticizing Bush's remarks on Iraq yellowcake purchase in Niger
b) Judy Miller has some contact with a government official, Fitgerald subpoenad her for details later (8)
c) the INR director at the time, Carl W. Ford Jr., was asked to explain Wilson's statements for Powell, according to sources familiar with the events. He went back and reprinted the June 10 memo but changed the addressee from Grossman to Powell (10)
July 7:
a)The White House retracts the Niger allegation, which is its sole admission to date of a flaw in the case for war, which was built on charges of an illegal Iraqi arsenal that has not been found

c) Robert Novak places a call to White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer accroding to White House phone logs.. Evening - Bush leaves for his trip to Africa
d) Ari Fleischer conducts a press gaggle. The gaggle transcript is misfiled in the WH site and is subpoenad by Fitzgerald in 2004

July 9:
a) Novak calls Wilson but they just play phone tag
b) In Africa, on a press gaggle Ari Fleischer is surprised by rumors of an impending Tony Blair visit to US. Ari also seems to confirm that the WH staff spent the previous night discussing Wilson's claims. The press gaggle transcript never makes it to the WH site, very few gaggle transcripts are missing from the WH site (11)

b) Jeff Gannon writes about WH shindig for Blair on the previous day (did he attend ?)

Judith Miller filed a story about Kelly where she reveals Dr. Kelly's wife, Jan, said he had been under enormous pressure, but in e-mails sent hours before his death, he gave no hint of that, telling an associate, for instance, that he looked forward to returning to Iraq.(9)

Dr Kelly gives evidence before the Committee. Says he doubts he was Gilligan's source. Committee believe him.
