Hot Amaya, A Current TV Host
There is still confusion over if it is August 1st or August 2nd, when the new
Current TV launches, but it will be here soon.
For those of you that are not aware, what Current TV is. Here is the low down. Current TV is the creation of Al Gore and some of his business partners of a new News Channel that will target 18-34 year-olds. It will be replacing NewsWorld International, which I will be greatly miss, so this better be good!
Current TV will not be your father's or your older brother's or sister's cable broadcast. Instead of having 30 or 60 minute shows, it will have short segments. According to the
New York Times -
Current plans to show segments 3 to 10 minutes in length - the better to hold the attention of channel-surfing multitaskers - that are to be shuffled throughout the day like songs on a radio station. Some will be minidocumentaries, produced in-house or by outsiders; others will be feature-oriented, on subjects like spirituality and relationships.
Virtually the only structure is to be provided by three-minute "Google Current" segments at the top and bottom of each hour, in which the most popular Google searches of the day are to be mined for evidence of what is on people's minds.
Yes short clips that replay themselves like the videos on 1980's MTV. Also note that viewers will be able to submit there own videos and "news reports". Hmmm, how many lightbulbs are going off in the Kossack Nation.
Now many believe that Current TV will be the "liberal" news channel aka the anti-FOX. However, Gore states that the channel will not have a political leaning. That the channel will be headquartered in San Francisco, I think that may be hard to accomplish. Also that Gore's business partners are the same ones that supported his 2000 presidential bid, it will be hard for the Rush's and O'Reilly's of the world, not to point fingers.
It would not be surprising, however, to see them use the same strategy that they did with AirAmerica. They will scream and scream that no one is watching, but slowly but surely the numbers will continue to grow and grow.
And growth will be the key. Only Time Warner Cable and DirecTV customers will carry Current. This means that about 20 million homes will receive the new channel at start up. LA residents tune to channel 116, New York City residents go to 103. That most advertisers want 50 million home access, this could be a concern.
So for those of you that have access, it will be critical for us to help this channel out. That it is based in San Francisco, I think Kos should be a regular weekly guest. Can any one say "Kos Day in Review"?
So let's see what happens, I am going to miss NWI and watching CBC's The National and DW's European Journal. So as I said earlier - it better be good!
