To all those convinced that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) failed OH-2 Congressional candidate Paul Hackett; to all those convinced that the DCCC is irrelevant; to all those convinced that the "D.C. Democrats" sold us out again in the OH-2 race; to all those upset that the DCCC didn't mention the Iraq war in a document they sent out last week that didn't mention any other issues other than ethics problems; to all of you folks, I ask: where's your outrage?
As of the posting of this diary, Bink's diary with the email from Paul Hackett on behalf of the DCCC has been up for about an hour and a half. Other than Bink, only three people have commented on it. Which prompts a question: Why are so many people around here eager to swarm like pirhanhas when the story is about Democrats who work in DC or for Democratic institutions like the DCCC screwing something up, but when these same people and institutions are praised, it goes without comment and possible with little or no notice?
And what does this say about either Paul Hackett or the theories about how the DCCC screwed him over? Is it possible that Paul Hackett--who was much better positioned to assess what was done on his behalf than just about anyone at Daily Kos--is it possible that Hackett saw what the DCCC did, and thought they did a good job? Or do folks think he really thinks the DCCC screwed up, but is either a nice guy who doesn't want to speak ill of folks, or a suck-up positioning himself for some other run for office and who doesn't want to make enemies? Why aren't people outraged at Hackett for helping the DCCC when it was supposedly the DCCC's work that had to be done by the netroots?
I'm inclined to think the DCCC played it smart by being low-key until the end, but I'm open to the possibility they screwed up. I heard third or forth hand that some of the people they had on the ground at the end were decent, but some not so decent. I'm open to several possibilities. But why does it seem to me that lots of people at Daily Kos aren't open to the possibility that the DCCC actually played it smart and executed things well? Am I imagining things, or are there too many people here who jump on the bandwagon of declaring failure, but are loathe to admit when Dem operatives and institutions do a good job, even if the final result wasn't a victory?
