Is the Fox radio morning guy, Tony Snow, besides being a willing tool of the Bush Administration, just another piece of human debris with a radio show or is he just plain evil? Sure, it's not nice to ask such questions about a fellow who apparently loves his wife, children, and family pets, but you've got to wonder if there isn't something seriously wrong with his moral compass. Here's my deal.
This morning, while claiming that a planned guest had begged off because of death threats phoned into the Crawford radio station that was going to do the anti-Sheehan thing, Snow connected the death threats to the "left-wing Daily Kos website."
The truth is, of course, that anyone expressing such sentiments at dKos would be banned, and besides, the vast majority of the dKos gang would consider making death threats obscene and criminal as would the general population. My suspicion is that Mr. Snow and his staff are well aware of this truth but simply do not care to recognize it because they rightfully believe their lies will play better to the Snow audience than would the truth.
Now had Snow said what he said while unconsciously following the usual right-wingnut radio host script, I'd consider him just another ignorant ass rather than evil. But it seems to me that he made the death threat connection knowing that it did not represent truth, so the basically evil possibility is fair to consider. Of course, there's no way for me to know for sure what was in his heart, but there are clues. Here are some from the on-air comments I jotted down while listening to today's program. (Because I was working while listening, the comments may not be exactly what was said, but they're close.)
The left sees it as immoral to criticize Cindy Sheehan.
[there are] death threats [coming] from the left.
[the left] is vicious and nasty.
[some of] the left is anti-American.
The problem is Cindy Sheehan and her fake facts.
She shouldn't be hanging out with people who make death threats.
[Cindy Sheenan] is becoming unhinged.
Cindy Sheehan says a lot of things that are hateful and spiteful.
The last comment is perhaps the saddest one of all those Tony Snow made because it points out how disconnected he is from his personal reality. That he could criticize another for saying hateful and spiteful things while he was saying hateful and spiteful things is revealing.
So, is Tony Snow evil, just another talk radios puke, or something else entirely? Decide for yourself but not from what I've written. Instead grab a barf bag some morning and listen to him yourself. Truly, I think you'll find him more despicable than characterized here.
Why is any of this important? Because we really do need to understand all the faces of the enemy within that is destroying our democracy. Because we need to understand-at the core emotional level-that this enemy will use an unsubstantiated and vile assertion-in this case one that is more likely to have been made by a Freeper provocateur than Kossack-as a weapon with which to beat on us.
