San Francisco Chronicle [CA]:
Cindy Sheehan is asking our president to identify the noble cause for which her son and more than 1,800 of our children have paid the ultimate price. The silence from our commander in chief is deafening. The question is one that is on the minds of the majority of Americans and yet here we sit just hoping things will get better. It is time to wake up from our slumber and get involved. We must vote for our rights rather than our wallets or one day we may wake up in a country we do not recognize, and that does not recognize us.
Los Angeles Times [CA]:
This should be a red flag for President Bush to face reality regarding his Iraq war. Cindy Sheehan, whose son died needlessly in Iraq, deserves recognition from the president. Obviously, Bush's refusal to meet directly with her shows what a coward he really is. It would behoove him to explain to Sheehan why her son died for a purely selfish cause, his personal fight for global domination. Bush's delusions have brought the human race one step closer to utter destruction. We, as Americans, must see to it that such dangerous thinking must end now!
News-Record [Greensboro, NC]:
Cindy Sheehan, the ordinary mother of a soldier killed in Iraq, is turning out to be quite extraordinary. In just a few days she's been able to do what heads of state, international public opinion, many politicians and a lot of mighty smart people have wrestled with for years. She has the serious attention of the White House over Iraq. It's no small feat for an ordinary mom, but she's also holding Mr. Bush accountable for his motives and actions there. She reportedly told the media, "I want to ask the president, 'Why did you kill my son? What did my son die for?' " Strong questions. Apparently, she expects real answers. It'll be hard to turn down an ordinary mom, and it'll be hard to fake it with all the attention. We'll be waiting to see what the answers are. Go, mom, go.
