two rockets have been fired into eilat, israel and a missle(s) (either rocket or mortar) has been fired at a u.s. navy ship anchored in aqaba, jordan (they missed and hit a warehouse) no sailors or marines were injured, however injuries to those in the area are not yet known. the u.s.s. ashland was the ship fired upon.
here is an early link from
newsday.
two other navy vessels immediately left the port of aquaba.
so the question begs: is america and the world safer?
more beneath the fold....
the rockets landed in the resort town of eilat without exploding, but they left a crater - no news yet of injuries. the rockets landed a few meters from the airport.
the pier that was hit in jordan was where the u.s.s. ashland was docked - there are no injuries of american military it is now being reported.
these attacks occurred within minutes of each other and, as yet, no connection is being made that they are related (but DUH! the timing is awfully convienient, isn't it??!!)
my thoughts are this: on this, the second anniversary of the bombing of bagdad, that as the gaza is evacuated, as hamas vies for control of the area, as iraq deteriorates, as iran gains stronger influence, as afghanistan deteriorates and as bush rides his bike into the sunset... i am left with the feeling that those who wish to stir the pot are seizing the day. what better time when there is no one minding the henhouse?
any thoughts on what will happen next? we have another two weeks of "vacation" to go - i'm betting that there will be more happening.
