As a bicyclist and Bush II despiser, I am disappointed that Lance did not pay his respects at Camp Casey when he left the Crawford set. I think that is too much to expect of any sports figure today. Someone earlier made a point about him not being a Muhammad Ali. But if you know a lot about Ali's life he is a problematic hero.
I can only think of one sports figure in my lifetime who one could think of coming close to being a perfect role model: Arthur Ashe.
- A great athlete.
- A true scholar. (Co-author of what many think is the definitive history of African American sports.)
- A man who took a stand when he saw it necessary.
- A great husband and father.
Anyone have any others?
