This is my first diary entry so please bear with me. I am retired military and I work within military communities. I, unfortunately, think that the Iraq debacle was about more than just oil. If we just look back at calendar years 2001 and 2002, our economy was tanking. Bush was not about to rescind his precious tax cuts but he needed to do something to stir up the economy, so...we have Iraq. Military personnel deploy for six plus months tax free and then come back to the United States to spend their income. All military personnel, including junior enlisted, now seem to have the latest and greatest from the electronic industry; laptop computers, portable dvd players, xboxes, etc., etc. Most are driving brand new, expensive automobiles. I am beginning to think that the only reason there has been any uplift in our economy is because military personnel returning from Iraq are so willing to spend all of their money they had saved while in a deployment status. Again, no facts, just what I see within the military community at large.
