From the
Salt Lake Tribune:
Last week, Salt Lake City was apparently slated to become the home of a new distribution facility, beating out Denver for a company that would initially employ 19 and eventually 100.
Then, Mayor Rocky Anderson led a protest against President Bush during his visit to Salt Lake City for the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention.
That angered Ron Simkins, co-owner of Sarasota, Fla.-based LexJet Corp.
It angered him so much he immediately decided to put the facility in Denver instead, and followed that up by calling the Tribune to offer Salt Lakers this little civics lesson, "It's [the mayor's] job to represent his community, not to throw down a gauntlet in front of the president."
Yeah, and it's a company owner's job to make decisions based on market considerations, not politics. But since you brought it up, I guess that means Denver's mayor is your model of Bush-respecting propriety.
But uh-oh!
Better not look at this...

From the
Denver Post 01/21/2003:
Thousands of anti-war activists joined the event to protest the Bush administration's policy toward Iraq. In a fiery speech, Mayor Wellington Webb exhorted the president to live up to King's ideals.
....
Anti-war messages were plentiful, and Mayor Wellington Webb urged President Bush to think twice about attacking Iraq.
D'oh!
Time to ring up the Post, Ron. These dummies in Denver don't seem to understand what a mayor's proper role is.
Turning back to Salt Lake and Inc. 500 company LexMark, I mean InkJet, I mean LexJet...
Salt Lake City economic development officials couldn't confirm the company was interested in the city - they'd never heard of LexJet.
I'm not surprised, so here's some help...

Ben Jenkins claims he, too, is pulling out of Salt Lake City, but his company, Western Fire & Aviation, couldn't be found in the phone book. Nor does it have a business license in Salt Lake City.
