One of the tricks to life is recognizing and acting on good ideas. I'd like to think that's what I'm doing here, acting on
mimi's great idea for a thread to propose solutions. As she points out, there could be over a million people displaced from this catastrophe.
Where do they work?
Where do they live?
How are they helped to get back on their feet?
What should we do differently and better as we rebuild the coasts?
As my buddy Kagro X often asks when people are complaining about something, "what's your solution?"
Progressives and liberals are different from conservatives because we believe in the power of government and collective action to improve people's lives. Don't be timid, be bold. But bonus points for dealing in politcal reality, and proposing things that might actually be popular and could garner political support in addition to being effective.
