There's been a moderate amount of dicussion about NYT's decision to start charging for some of their content. I knew that I could always get NYT content and archives from home, through my library, and today I checked to see if I could get the TimesSelect content. No problem. My library gets to it through something called ProQuest. I went to Databases, selected New York Times current content and entered my card number, and that took me to the ProQuest search page. I put in "Krugman" and selected last 7 days for the search period, and got his column from today. I did some fooling around to figure out a broader search, and found that if you put in OP-Ed as the search term, that brings in most or all of the Op-Ed pieces. I searched on "Op-Ed" just from today and got Bob Herbert, Ann Althouse, some guy named Jim Collins, and somebody else I don't remember. I didn't get Krugman by doing that, but I did get to him just putting in his name. ProQuest seems to have mischaracterized his column as a letter.
So check out your library. Most of the ones that I've used have a vast wealth of online stuff accessible from home, including newspapers, magazines, dictionaries, tons and tons and tons of stuff. Including (for today, and at my library, at any rate) the TimesSelect content.
