Huh. Go figure. The Senate defense spending bill, coming in at $440 BILLION and change (plus another $50 billion for the Iraq War), apparently
is not enough. And if Dubya can't get $7 billion more than what the (Republican-controlled) Congress is willing to give, well then he's gonna stamp his feet and pout, maybe hold his breath until he turns blue.
The White House on Friday threatened to veto a $440.2 billion defense spending bill in the Senate because it wasn't enough money for the
Pentagon and also warned lawmakers not to add any amendments to regulate the treatment of detainees or set up a commission to probe abuse.
Oh, I love that last little tidbit. This administration just loves to rub our noses in it, doesn't it? We get to do what we wanna, and if you don't like, well you can go pound sand.
Huh. I think not.
How about we try this? Since we are already up to our grandchildren's eyeballs in debt, and massive hurricanes keep slamming into our coastline, and there is NO end to the Iraq War in sight - maybe you should trim a little fat, no? Do we really need missile defense to protect us from dirty bombs packed in cargo containers? I'm guessing no. And are Joint Strike Fighters any more effective against car bombers than say, an F-15 or F-117? Maybe not.
You want to talk about increased spending bills? How about my auto fuel bill - 30% higher than last year? And my (gas) heating bill this winter? Probably 100% higher than 2004. Listen George - do what I do. Tighten your belt, cut out some luxuries (like tax cuts for the rich, pork-barrel spending, corporate welfare, and wars of choice), and make do with less.
