In
this comment exchange it was alleged that Steve Young, CA-48 special election candidate, was giving half his money to a church.
Not true, my fellow Kossacks!
Here's the truth, straight from the communications director of the campaign to me (he's a friend and answers my calls within 10 minutes) and to you, and I'm using my only diary of the day to get the word out.
More beyond the fold ...
For one week this past month, Steve Young pledged half of the money raised by the campaign to a group from the Irvine First AME Church to be used only for supplies -- not travel, not extraneous expenses, not religious purposes -- to go down to Hurricane Katrina devastated areas to help people rebuild their homes.
Mr. Young went down to New Orleans on his own dime, and, according to my friend the communications director of the campaign, was devastated himself by the damage done and the lack of adequate response by government.
Frankly, the campaign did not raise a great deal of funds in that single week that they were donating funds to this cause. I have to wonder if the reason for that was disinformation, such as I am addressing here in this diary.
It is of ULTIMATE IMPORTANCE that people who comment or diary on this site have their facts straight before they go off and spread disinformation like this. This could negatively affect this campaign just when it's really getting going.
The communications director for the campaign tells me that they're getting everything in place now for a real legitimate run for this seat. Wouldn't it have been a shame if someone who did not know the truth had derailed the Steve Young effort in CA-48?
The campaign has just lined up a professional fundraiseer and press liaison in DC, and they have an excited and engaged troop of folks here in very Republican Orange County, CA. They need cash, not bad intel from what I presume are generally well-meaning Kos posters.
I've never done this before, but I'm going to ask that this diary be elevated to the homepage so that the facts can rise to the top.
Once again, here is the link to Steve Young's ActBlue page. And, like I said before, don't forget a little something for ActBlue, they do good work for progressive candidates.
And, finally, thanks for taking the time to digest all this.
