A few comments on Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen's press conference.
So Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen claims he's trying to defuse the issue.
I just watched his press conference on CNN. Conducting what he describes as a "reasoned dialog", he says criticism and misinformation is being spread quickly, carried on weblogs and mobile phones in an "organised" fashion and they are investigating who's "behind" all this...
I've asked the same question from another point of view, and it would be useful if one of the assembled journalists had asked him. Surely it's only balanced to investigate the possibility of organised agendas behind the proliferation of the cartoons, as well as the response?
And finally,a littlle ripe from a Nato member right now, lecturing us what does and doesn't "justify attacks on people and property".
Now. I'm not an angry Muslim, but this stuff pisses me off. And the way America is using it to destabilise Lebanon and threaten Syria.
I can see why people (many of them deprived and poorly educated) who have generally been exploited, intimidated, attacked and humiliated by western interests time out of mind, who have seen their fellow Arabs and/or Muslims invaded and occupied, extorted and murdered, and on top of that, have to endure the astonishing, hectoring hypocrisy of the West, the US and Israel, might get a little enraged too. Especially since it suits many of heir leaders to stir things up, just as it suits many of ours.
And I'd imagine, like me, many suspect that this is intentional, part of a psychological war - the equivalent of the missiles Israel throws into Palestine whenever it looks like things are calming down a bit.
