MAN am I tired. One of these days I'm going to do a very self-serving diary that explains where I'm from, what I do for a living, and what my interests
outside of politics are. Suffice it to say that I'm a singer and I had a gig last night. I didn't lay my head on the pillow until 4:30 this morning. So, bear with me. I'll try to be coherent.
For those just catching this, I'm scanning the daily MSM for mentions of all things Gannon-related in an effort to track the relative traction of the issue in the press. It's often depressing, but someone has to do it. Read on for today's installment.
Again, whatever is new since I posted yesterday's update will be included here today. It's not looking like I have a lot to report... But I'll press on.
TV News Outlets Online
Can I initiate a new Giant Turd Award? If so, then it goes to ALL MSM TV News Outlets online: Not one mention of Guckert on CNN.com, MSNBC.com, FoxNews.com, ABCNews.com, or CBSNews.com. I heave a giant cat fart in each of the networks' general directions.
Newspaper Outlets Online
Editor & Publisher: Her Syndicate Runs Edited Version of Ann Coulter Column - not sure if I should include this pub here, but it seems to get a lot of credible attention.
The Miami Herald: Press corps no longer an exclusive club
The Chicago Tribune: White House press corps mixes mainstream, odd
The Los Angeles Time: The Muck Stops Here
And that's all she wrote. Because I live on the east coast, I start with the Northeast and Ohio newpapers. It was getting super depressing until I got to the southern-most major city on the east coast (Miami) and finally found an article. Since all the majors (The Washington Post, The Boston Herald, The Boston Globe, The New York Times) have received multiple Pootie-poot-poopy Awards, I have to give kudos now to The Chicago Tribune and The Los Angeles Times for keeping the "mention quotient" fairly high. Too bad I live outside of DC.
Other Media Outlets
Again - these are either smaller legitimate (but not necessarily major Metropolitan/national) publications or blatantly partisan news sources.
The Daily Howler: NOW THEY'VE GOT BOEHLERT! Why won't news orgs cover Jeff Gannon? Could it be because Gannon ain't news?
The Poor Man: Am we secretly geniuses?
Democrats.com: BlogCall1 Thursday 2/24: John Aravosis on Gannongate - Now I wouldn't usually include this because it's a few days older but there's a lot of interesting info here in the included links that will give you an idea of what's going on in other blogs. I'll quote below.
Americablog:
Racists for Gannon
Oregon Live:
Blogs deserve consideration by newsrooms
Counter Bias:
No More Whining, Jimmy-Jeff!
The Pantagraph:
Greenberg: Who should be able to attend press briefings?
Pittsburgh Live:
Republicans, bloggers & gays, oh my!
North County Times:
On the fast track to fascism
It seems apparent to me that "other" media sources are continuing to cover this issue but the decline in the MSM is troubling - of course, it is the weekend and a lot of MSM outlets turn to fluff. However, one would figure that if they were hard up for news they would chew the Gannon issue a little more. I just don't get it.
Update [2005-2-27 18:12:56 by RenaRF]:Thanks to Stormwatcher's comments in my diary to Ann Coulter's article, I have added a poll.
