Someone at work mentioned reading about a proposed bit of passive resistance at the Republican Convention in September in New York, but some quick googling failed to turn anything up, so I'll put it out there and see if anyone's read about it.
The Republican National Convention needs volunteers:
A committed army of volunteers is the backbone of every endeavor, and the 2004 Republican National Convention is no exception. New Yorkers, together with individuals from surrounding counties and states have demonstrated a tremendous willingness to contribute the time and energy necessary to ensure the 2004 Republican National Convention is the most successful in history.
The New York City Host Committee 2004 has developed a paperless system to recruit more than 8,000 volunteers, who will perform key duties and play crucial roles in the areas of transportation, information services, hospitality, and special events.
According to said person at work, they're having problems finding those 8,000 volunteers, perhaps not surprising in a primarily Democratic city. The plan, then, is simple. If you live in New York,
sign up with the NYC Host Committee, attend training if need be, and just not show up to work at the Convention when they need you. Doing your bit by not doing your bit, so to speak.
