I'm a little stunned by the unveiling of Daily Kos 3.0.
I don't know about you, but the new site makes me feel very uncomfortable. I don't like the way the new columns are arranged....I'm used to having the content in the center, and I thought it worked a lot better that way. The disappearance of the left sidebar annoys me.
The blazing orange also bothers me. There doesn't appear to have been much of an attempt to work in any other colors into the new design. It's just all monolithic orange.
Then there's the Soviet-style header text....others have complained about this, and I feel the same way. Kos should have just used the same font that he used for the previous heading. It was much more friendly.
continued below...
It's hard to distinguish between one diary and the next on the far right sidebar. The text spacing needs to be corrected in that regard. Previously, it was in tables, which made it easier, and the spacing made it easy to seperate one diary from another.
The redesign is simply a little too bold for me.
It's too orange, too Soviet, and too deviant from the last design, which, quite frankly, did a lot of things right.
Change isn't always good. Remember "New Coke"?
I guess I could come to accept this redesign. But I think a lot of things need to be at least tweaked before I'll feel comfortable using it. Right now, I feel like I've landed on an alien world.
This is Kos' site - and he can make whatever changes he wants to it. I've always respected that.
But I hope he takes feedback into account and is willing to make minor changes to the new design to improve his readers' experience.
