While his poll numbers continue to flounder, and while he's tied his support for an unpopular president, Mike DeWine is facing an assault from his right flank...
From the Cleveland Plain Dealer's political blog:
Conservative Christian powerbroker Phil Burress keeps an inch-and-a-half thick notebook on his desk detailing every one of GOP Sen. Mike DeWine's votes in Washington, and he doesn't like what's in it.
"He's wrong on so many issues," said Burress, who heads Citizens for Community Values, a suburban Cincinnati group in the forefront of movements against abortion rights and gay marriage.
Now I don't expect DeWine to lose the GOP nomination for Senate in the primary in June...that's nearly unthinkable.
But as the Ohio GOP continues to fragment with the bloody Blackwell/Petro battle to see who will lose to Ted Strickland for governor, we see the central state GOP leadership unable to stamp out the wingnut dissent like Burress.
That means that this fall, the wingnuts won't be as jazzed up about DeWine as they could be...and Sherrod Brown will be the next Senator from Ohio.
